Railers of the North en RADIO QUETZAL

("Railers of the North") are a Mexican norteño three-time Grammy-nominated band based in El Paso, Texas.[1] They formed in Ojinaga, Chihuahua in 1979 and later moved to Texas, and remain one of the oldest norteño bands still active today (Along with Los Tigres del NorteLos Huracanes del Norte, and Conjunto Rio Grande). The band's name, "Los Rieleros", is based on work that some members did on the railroads of Hobbs, New Mexico. Unlike many other norteño bands, the Rieleros del Norte use both the saxophone and accordion in their music, creating a dual-instrument hybrid. All original members of the band are natives of Ojinaga, Chihuahua, a town from which many other saxophone-norteño bands originated.
Currently, the band's leader is Daniel Esquivel; other members include: Daniel Esquivel Jr., playing the accordion, Javier Esquivel, playing electric bass, Alfredo Esquivel, playing drums, Eugenio "Pemo" González, playing the saxophone, and Rogelio Martinez, Bajo Sexto. In the past, Polo Urías was the band's lead singer, but he left to form his own musical group, Polo Urías y su Maquina Norteña. Several years ago, the Rieleros ensemble had two bajo sexto players, one of whom was Manolo Morales, but he also left to form his own band, los Rieles. Los Rieleros del Norte also helped form La Maquinaria Norteña, which features three former members of the Polo Urias band. They also inspired Esquivel's singer/songwriter and producer cousin, Isac Esquivel, to join Sonic Ranch Studios, along with Christopher Schoemann and Christopher M. Carzoli.
